The Futility of War and Religion

It was Albert Einstein who stated, "We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if mankind is to survive."

The veracity of this astute observation falls on deaf ears with 2.5 billion Christians and 1.8 billion Muslims.

Einstein's statement is irrelevant to fundamentalist worshipers because they absurdly believe that Jesus or Allah will return and destroy all the 'non-believers', and they will live happily ever after in Heaven.

The "new manner of thinking" that the late theoretical physicist was referring to is based on the fact that we must begin to understand the futility, destruction, and chaos created by war. We also need to comprehend the use of religion as a tool to keep the masses in the dark.

As long as you believe there is a "savior" on the horizon, your voice will never be heard. To sit back and say, "God will take care of everything" is no more than a ridiculous cop out.

Carl Sagan, astronomer, cosmologist, astrophysicist, author, and science communicator stated, "In all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves."

This brings us back to Einstein's proclamation. To paraphrase: if humankind is to survive, we must vastly improve our ability to think outside of the religious box most of us were placed in at birth. Otherwise, we're going to continue down the road to self-destruction and self-annihilation. It's not Satan, because he is simply the antagonist of a Roman story, plagiarized from Egyptian folklore.

Carl Sagan's opinion on war: "The nuclear arms race is like two sworn enemies standing waist deep in gasoline, one with three matches, the other with five."

Make no mistake about it, the true terrorist of this world, after the fall of the Roman Empire in 476 CE, for the past several centuries, has been the United States of America. Do a little fact-finding, do your own research, and you will clearly see the historical skulduggery meted out by the good ol' USA.

Over 7 billion people are ignoring the sad fact that about 300 men have our future (particular our children and unborn generations) in their hands. America is not the only country who, at the push of a button, could destroy an entire nation. "Two sworn enemies, standing waist deep in gasoline, both with lit matches." What are we going to do about it?

There are over 1.35 billion active users on Facebook and 332 million on LinkedIn. Let your voice be heard! If you don't stand for something of moral substance, you'll fall for anything, which is why the primordial evangelical stories still dominate our collective psyche.

You have a voice and a platform to speak out. This generation of arrogant, benighted, sanctified citizens, will be remembered as the most selfish group of people in world history.

Why?

Because the majority have allowed themselves to be brainwashed to believe that an individual walked on water and will be returning. These people, where evangelical issues are concerned, are narcissistic, superstitious simpletons.

And please, stop calling yourself "spiritual" to place distance between your outlandish beliefs and religion. It's impossible to be spiritual one minute and the next minute you're quoting from a 2600-year-old book written by primitive men. These primordial authors also thought we lived on a flat planet and the Earth was the center of the universe.

In 1600, philosopher, mathematician, poet and astrologer, Giordano Bruno stated, "Innumerable suns [stars] exist. Innumerable earths [planets] revolve around these. Living beings inhabit these worlds." The church tried to force Bruno to retract his statement. When he refused, Pope Clement VIII ordered that he be sentenced as an "impenitent and pertinacious heretic." Giordano was brought to the Campo de' Fiori, his tongue in a gag, and burned alive.

Those who speak out against religion and war, are no longer put to death, but are ostracized by family members and society in general.

Any person running for the office of President of the United States, has to declare that he is a Christian, otherwise, he has no shot at winning. These guys profess their faith and almost immediately go about the business of making sure that America gets involved in another war for profit.

It was Dr. Martin King who stated, "A true revolution of values will lay hands on the world order and say of war, this way of settling differences, is not just."

Not only is it "not just" but war is speeding up the demise of the human species. If we do not begin to speak out as one voice, we will leave a tragic legacy for our children and future generations.

It's time to take a stand, it's time to make a difference.
