I used to think it was just a phase when I found out my daughter was smoking weed—just teenage rebellion, like trying on ripped jeans or blasting loud music. But that was before I did the research. What I found shook me.
The THC levels in today’s weed are off the charts. We're talking 80 to 100 percent potency in dabs, vapes, and wax pens. That’s not a plant anymore...that’s a chemical assault. Back in the '70s, '80s, or even '90s, THC levels hovered around 2 to 5 percent. That means today’s high isn't just stronger...it’s fundamentally more dangerous. It’s weaponized.
And the damage is real. High-potency marijuana use is now linked to cannabis-induced psychosis, hallucinations, paranoia, and even suicidal ideation...especially in teens and young adults whose brains are still developing. According to Johnny’s Ambassadors Youth Marijuana Prevention, one in six youth who start using marijuana before the age of 18 will become addicted. And with high-THC products, the risk multiplies. Their research confirms an alarming rise in teen mental illness, self-harm, and hospitalization directly connected to marijuana use.
This ain’t about being square or anti-fun. I’m a single dad who raised my son and daughter without a partner, so I know what resilience looks like. I used to tell them: If you can make it through life without falling victim to drugs...yes, including prescription meds...or alcohol, you've already won half the war. Because the system wants you medicated, numb, distracted, and dependent.
Look, life is already hard. The world is cold, social media’s fake, and capitalism’s heavy. But masking your pain in smoke or bottle is just hitting pause on your potential. There's nothing cool about needing a hit just to function or fit in. That’s not freedom...that’s bondage dressed up like fun.
Don’t believe the lie that weed is harmless just because it’s “natural.” Hemlock is natural. Arsenic is natural. Ethanol...the same toxic chemical that fuels cars...is the active ingredient in your weekend bottle. And if you need a puff, a sip, a pill, or a line to feel alive or accepted, then it’s time to look in the mirror and ask:
What am I really trying to escape from?
You were born for more than this. From a spiritual lens, this life, with all its challenges, is your soul’s syllabus. You chose this human experience to evolve. Every hardship, every heartbreak, is part of your growth...not a reason to check out.
So stop chasing artificial highs. The best high is alignment...with your purpose, your path, your power. Pray. Meditate. Create. Heal. Find your tribe who doesn’t need to get lit to feel lit. Don’t let a substance rewrite your story before you even figure out the plot.

Because this isn’t just about weed. This is about waking up.
