How arrogantly absurd it is to buy into the concept that our Creator can be whomever we choose him or her to be, based on unscientific literary articles written over 2500 years ago.
The percentage is low to find a spiritually woke Southern fellow. The percentage is even lower to come across a lady in the bible-belt-south who doesn't harbor antiquated superstitious postulations. The article writer does not mention the disparity in percentages to belittle women, the issue is there are more Christian women than there are Christian men. A man will tell you that he's Christian, but if the female does not subscribe to his belief system, and she's drop-dead-gorgeous, a man will temporarily abandon his faith for the nookie. History clearly delineates this fact.
She'll refer to herself as spiritual but her very next sentence will be a quote from an archaic scripture, collated almost 3000 years ago. The articles in this holy book were written by 40 primitive male authors who thought this to be the only planet in the universe; who thought planet Earth was flat; who hypothesized that the sun revolved around the earth, instead of the other way around (planets revolve around their closest star). These ignorant men had no clue about the plethora of exoplanets that exist in the visible universe (less than 5 percent of what's out there).
When an astronomer, through telescopic research, suggested otherwise - Giordano Bruno - the church burned him alive. Galileo Galilei's life was spared because of his association with a priest who served on the board of the Inquisition. However, he was placed under house arrest and censured for the remainder of his life.
It's not that these folks are not intelligent. They are physicians, attorneys, and successful entrepreneurs. Unfortunately, because of historical brainwashing, when it comes to their mythical canonical beliefs, they remain in the dark ages. These are people who refuse to think or study independently in the areas of religion, cosmology, energy, and world geography. One need not be a scholar in any of these disciplines, but one would need to open a book on the subjects every now and then.
Our society's perpetual and deleterious acceptance of what amounts to pious fairytales will lead to our collective demise. Based on our inability to live harmoniously together, the global implosion is quickly approaching.
