My spirit guides, in no particular order, are my brother Kent, who transitioned at age 33; my best friend Keith, who passed at 40; my mom, who transitioned at 54 when I was 19; and my biological sister Belinda, who passed at 18 shortly after giving birth to twin boys. Belinda's higher self had reached out to my adoptive mother, summoning me to the Bay Area before her passing. Though I didn’t grow up with Belinda, she is part of my spiritual family, guiding and protecting me alongside Kent, Keith, and my mom.
When my mom passed in 1980, I was only 19, grappling with the abrupt loss. I often sat alone in our family home, longing for her presence and exploring books by authors like Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, Raymond Moody, and Caroline Myss. My efforts were rewarded a year later, when, on a cold, rainy night in Dallas, I clearly heard my mom’s voice—a comforting and undeniable connection from beyond.
Over the years, my loved ones have continued to reach out, often through unusual means. In 2002, a chance phone conversation with a medium—a stranger I met on a dating site—led to my brother coming through with a simple message: he was okay. The medium, whom I had been drawn to because of her striking white hair, could even read my aura over the phone, correctly describing my love for plants without knowing me. This was just one of many experiences that have deepened my belief in the enduring connection with those we love.
I’ve also come to understand that spirits can communicate in ways beyond words, like influencing electricity or animals, particularly birds. These gentle nudges remind us that, even though our loved ones have left the physical plane, they remain connected, alive, and thriving in a different dimension.
Belinda, my biological sister, was just 18 when she passed away after giving birth to twins. At 15, I had been called to the Bay Area to meet her, as she had a strong sense that she wouldn’t survive. I felt her need for support, and during my brief time there, I was able to help my biological mother—a woman with her own struggles—to begin to turn her life around.
Though I returned to Texas, my connection to these guides remains strong. My mother’s spirit has watched over me all these years, protecting me without infringing on my free will. It has been over four decades since she passed, but her loving presence is still with me every day. I am grateful for the guidance and love of my spirit family—my brother, my best friend, my sister, and most of all, my mom. Love and miss you, Mrs. Inez.
Throughout my life, my spirit guides—my family and friends who have passed—have provided comfort, protection, and guidance. From unexpected encounters with mediums to subtle signs in nature, their presence has reassured me of their continued existence and care. Though they are no longer physically here, the bond remains unbroken, offering peace and a reminder that love transcends the limits of this world.
