Millennials and Social Media

Millennials: also known as Generation Y (or simply Gen Y), are the demographic cohort following Generation X and preceding Generation Z. Researchers and popular media use the early 1980s as starting birth years and the mid-1990s to early 2000s as ending birth years, with 1981 to 1996 a widely accepted definition.

Self-aggrandizing: acting or intended to enhance one's power, wealth, position, or reputation; especially boastful often in disregard of the truth.

Apathy
: lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern.

JAMES CHANEY - 21 yrs

MICHAEL SCHWERNER - 24 yrs
ANDREW GOODMAN - 20 yrs

Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner were arrested and jailed on the night of June 21 for “speeding” along the edge of Philadelphia, Mississippi. Deputy Sheriff Cecil Price of Neshoba County claimed to have released the three men at approximately 10 p.m. the same night. Although the three civil rights workers had disappeared, the FBI in Jackson refused to investigate the matter.

Because two of the three missing men were white (Schwerner and Goodman) with important northern connections, their disappearance quickly captured America’s attention.

Rita Schwerner had no allusions about the ugly truth that was motivating the search for her husband. “I personally suspect that if Mr. Chaney, who is a native Mississippi Negro, had been alone at the time of the disappearance, that this case, like so many others that have come before, would have gone completely unnoticed,” she told the press.

President Johnson, convinced that the entire incident was merely a publicity stunt, worried that if he started “house mothering each [volunteer’s family] that’s gone down there and that doesn’t show up, that we’ll have this White House full of people every day asking for sympathy.”

Finally, on July 30, an informant disclosed to the FBI that the bodies were buried at a dam site in Neshoba County. The informant, a highway patrolman from Meridian, was treated to a steak dinner at the Holiday Inn that night.

The digging began early on the morning of August 4, six weeks after the men had first gone missing. After several hours of digging and 14 feet and 10 inches deep into the earth, the bodies of Schwerner, Goodman, and Chaney were finally discovered lying face down, side by side.

An integrated burial in Mississippi was out of the question. Chaney was buried on a hilltop outside of Meridian, and the bodies of Schwerner and Goodman were flown to New York.

Here's what's up Millennials (and some Generation X's)... In 2020, the "right to protest for right" doesn't mean you must sacrifice your life like so many others did so you have the freedom today to ignore the rest of the world.

Greta Thunberg turned 17-years young on January 3, 2020. Greta is a Swedish environmental activist on climate change and Time Magazine's 2019 Person of the Year. Her global campaign has garnered international recognition. She is the same young lady mocked by US President Donald Trump (hating on her being named Person of the Year instead of himself).

Read her book, "No One is Too Small to Make a Difference" and it will highlight the fact that she is mature beyond her years. Ms. Thunberg's age puts her in the Millennial category, but she is a throwback to the "Silent Generation" (demographic cohort defined as individuals born between 1928 and 1945). To say that the designation as a Silent Generation is a misnomer would be a major understatement. This group was far from silent - for better or worse.

Generation X (1960-1980); Millennials (1981-2003) aka Generation Y;  and Generation Z (born in 2003-present) owe a tremendous debt to the Silent Generation and Baby Boomers

Millennials and many Generation X's, walk around with their heads buried in their "smartphones" oblivious to the world around them. Many sit in the pews on Sunday morning, offering pseudo praise to a deity they know nothing about, while self-aggrandizing and profiling as if they are concerned citiziens. The cavalier, arrogant, narcissistic attitude exhibited by some Millennials is a cold-blooded slap in the face to Chaney, Goodman, Schwerner, and millions of other martyrs for the human condition.

You should be ashamed of yourselves but your hubris and lack of logical thinking does not allow empathy, because it's ALL ABOUT YOU!
